"Written well, easy to read and the story transitions made sense and kept it interesting. A nice look into the backstory and the mind of Froning. Some good stories and you get an idea of his character and heart. He is a serious competitor though and its just a glimpse behind the scenes. It was an easy read on vacation."

First What It Takes to Win Audible Audio Edition Rich Froning David Thomas Sean Pratt Tantor Audio Books Reviews

  • For CrossFit lovers this is a must read book - Rich Froning is without a doubt one of the big names to stay in CrossFit history and his life is very inspiring from a point of view of getting inside a professional athlete's mind and seeing what's important if you want to win and be the best. I've heard from some friends that there is too much focus on the way God has helped him, but I believe that the amount of time he focuses in God in the book is just how much devoted he is and how much important Faith has been to him in the process. I personally take it that it shows that there should be a greater purpose for everything in life and the book (and consequently Rich) is a great representation of that! Greatly recommended!
  • As a christian and a Crossfitter I really enjoyed this. Its really not a guide on how to be a beast in the gym but a book about Who Rich is and also asks you "Why" do you do Crossfit. I actually found the Crossfit games parts the least interesting because you can watch that all on youtube but Rich's struggles and journey with his own heart and motives were most interesting and helpful. Also how he walks out his faith in Crossfit was also helpful to me.
  • Written well, easy to read and the story transitions made sense and kept it interesting. A nice look into the backstory and the mind of Froning. Some good stories and you get an idea of his character and heart. He is a serious competitor though and its just a glimpse behind the scenes. It was an easy read on vacation.
  • Crossfit has taken the world in a different area of competitiveness when it comes to sports. Rich Froning is a man who firsthand experienced not only loss in his first crossfit games, but loss in his spiritual life and immediate family as well. This is not a book just about crossfit. Although, there is a lot of talk about that in this book. This is a story about how God changed a heart, and in the process shows what it really means to win. Not in crossfit but in life more importantly. Putting God first is when heart change truly takes place and Rich Froning is just one testimony of that experience. I strongly recommend people read this book, crossfitter or not a crossfitter. It's an amazing story of a life changed by Christ.
  • I am so happy that I took the time to read about the THREE time Crossfit champion. It wasn't the best written book but I have to admit that I really enjoyed it (especially since it was two weeks before the 2013 Crossfit Games). I read it in one long travel day in the airport and on the plane. Since then I have passed it along to another friend from our box. They said that they liked it also. Again, not the best written book but the story is very inspirational.

Note for a over 40 person I did get some laughs about a 25 year old getting "aches and pains" - just you wait Rich Froning!
  • This was an interesting book about Mr. Froning and his accomplishments in winning two (and I think now three) CrossFit Games competitions. I had to take one star off my review for the understandably boring accounts of each and every excercise he had to perform; there's not really a way to make that interesting. He addresses many questions, such as those who accuse him of using drugs, and those who say he preaches Christianity too publicly. My favorite line is when he says it's easier to please God than to please people! Ain't that the truth!
  • Good book, and hes definitely inspiring, even if its not the most remarkable story or polished prose, I read it very quickly and enjoyed it. It's a little preachy at points, but he's entitled to that
  • I thought the title is ok for the book but didn't really do the book justice. The book is more about the journey to where and how he got here. I found the story refreshing and uplifting. This is not a manual of how to become a Crossift games champion. It does talk about his mindset and how he found his way into Crossfit. If you are Atheist and don't want to keep a open mind then you will not enjoy this book. I found it revitalizing and enjoyed the opportunity to see Rich as a person not just some Iconic Crossfit games champion. Fun read and interesting.
