- Publisher did a horrible job printing these classic books. Shameful disservice to the wonderful original works by the author. Do some research and find the originals. It's somewhat time consuming, more expensive, and mostly dealing with second hand copies, but definitely worth the effort if you cherish these wonderful collections from years ago. This was even supposed to be a special 60th anniversary edition. Very disappointing how they reprinted these so inferior to the original. Like I said shameful
- I'm not a horse person. I like them, as long as they don't bite me, and I enjoy the occasional walk on a well-beaten path on a very gentle animal. But I have never - and most likely will never - train, show, or own a horse or pony. Nonetheless, I loved this book set. It was utterly charming and hilarious. The humor was sharper than I expected; brilliant for adults, teens and children! There are some cartoons which may not be considered PC, like those related to fox-hunting - these were drawn in the 1950's or 60's I think. The drawings are brilliant, simply brilliant. While the horses are cartoons, their faces are utterly alive with expression! All of the animals and humans are so `real' in a comically unreal way! This set is out of print and expensive, so I'd recommend searching for the titles separately or looking around a little. A MUST for horse lovers (who do you think recommended this to me?) and anyone else who wants to have a good, happy laugh!
- My seller I gave five stars because they performed just fine in good faith. Unfortunately I can't say the same for this publisher. I have loved Thelwell's cartoons since I discovered them in the library in high school. I own an excellent copy of this title in hard cover, original printing. I intended to buy this copy for a friend who I knew would love them. They seem not to be even reproduced from plates much less film or artwork; looks more like they were printed from poor third generation photocopies! They are virtually unviewable and certainly nothing I'll give as a gift. The cartoons themselves are wonderful and if you can get an early printing instead of this reprinting, I recommend the book and all the Thelwell titles as priceless humor and fine British mid-century line art.
- I had this set when I was a kid and loaned it to someone who never returned it. I was thrilled to find this boxed set again after all these years. Very happy to have, to pass on to my horse loving daughter, and her daughter, and her daughter.....
Quality was fine. Paper a bit yellowed with time, but generally in good shape. - The reason I give this only three stars is that the paper-bound book is too small! I have to use a magnifying glass in order to read the text. I wish there were a larger-format edition with larger print for my old eyes. Other than that, I do like the Thelwell series.
- I didn't quite realize when I purchased this that it is a compilation of several books. I have loved Thelwell since I was a kid, but I have found the books not all that easy to come by. This one is great, but being a relatively thick book you have to really crack the binding to open it up all the way to get a good full look at the cartoons. It is also in black and white, although I suppose that is what he drew (I somehow have always thought of Thelwell in color, but I am not sure what I am remembering). His drawings are clearly done by a person that knows equine anatomy, as they are all very correct, just that the ponies all have cute, fat bellies and adorable expressions. I don't know why Thelwell isn't more universal, as I think just about any horse person would appreciate this good-hearted, family-friendly, timeless humor. Even my 2 yo daughter asks to "read" these cartoons.
- I recall the immaculate and detailed illustrations produced by Normal Thelwell from books I had as a child. This edition has been printed so badly it is very difficult to see what is actually in the illustrations. Shoddy printing quality might be acceptable in larger illustrations but these are so small their size compounds the problem until it seems one is simply flipping through a book of blurs and blots. I am very disappointed and have returned the book.
- A Leg At Each Corner and Angels on Horseback have been favorites of mine since childhood (let's just say.... "Once upon a time..."). Yet, every time I scroll through them I laugh so hard tears stream down my face. While these books pertain to jumping, Thelwell also has a volume on Western that please the cowpokes among us.

Horton does a great job with showing the uncertainty of the new world situation and how neighbors and acquaintances are and should be suspicious of almost everyone, and the price they pay if they are not sufficiently cautious. Great book, great series and you will not regret this purchase and the time to read it."

- After thoroughly enjoying the first book, The Mad Mick, I was impatiently waiting on Masters of Mayhem. It definitely did not disappoint! It takes you on a fast-paced, action-filled, rollicking good time, even with the hardships in a post-apocalyptic world. Conor is my ultimate action hero, level-headed, experienced and creative. I do think that Barb is in for some self-imposed trouble ahead, I can’t wait to see! Franklin Horton, you’ve hit another impressive home run! Satisfying length on the book, as well. Loved it! I highly encourage readers to not only read this & the first book, The Mad Mick, but check out his Borrowed World and Locker 9 series as well!
- Looks to me that Franklin Horton has himself a great new series with the Mad Mick. 'Master of Mayhem' picks right up from the first book and is if I may say, the better book of the two. There is a lot to like in this one; especially Barb, who finally gets to shine a bit in what she does best, death and mayhem. All in all, a great book, greatly enjoyed it and only hope there are a few more Mad Micks coming our way.

The Mad Mick books are fantastic! This story will definitely have legs. Conor is pretty much one of a kind...except for Barb! She is badass for sure! If you have never read Franklin Horton start with this series. Then go to the Locker 9 series and then hit the borrowed world. We have all books on , Audible, Print. We can read them no matter what. You will not be disappointed for sure!
- I rated it 6/5 in my own scale. Better than the first book, Mad Mick 2 has loads of excitement and great characters. All the main people are so well drawn, they are 3 dimensional. I read it in one day. It's the end of his adventures; though it's possible another could be written. Very satisfying conclusion.
A few typos like 'taught' for 'taut', 'come out right with it' for 'come right out with it' and a few others. - Story, good. Continues book one. But the barb character destroys the whole story. So fake and over the top. I get embellishments, but come on! She'd jump on a man and get suplexed on her head! It was so over the top I won't read anymore. Can't. You'll feel this way also.
- Omg, talk about non stop action! This book is totally engrossing from the get go, it's the best of Hortons books thus far and I finished it at light speed so I'm going to read it again this weekend it's really just that great. Get this book now you won't regret it. Love it!

- I want to start by saying that I get very frustrated with books that I’ve paid money for that have clearly been overlooked in the editing department. There were multiple times in the book that I noticed grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and poorly worded sentences. I’ll do my best to not let those wrong-doings affect my review, but would it kill you to just hit spell check one more time before sending this thing to the printer?
The Good
David Greene has clearly experienced living in a high-priced city and being forced to invest in other parts of the country to make money. He resides in the San Francisco Bay area and started his investing career while being a police officer. That, in itself, is an impressive feat. He mentions in the book a few times that he was a millionaire by thirty, which is definitely something he should be proud of and is definitely an inspiring statement to make.
He attributes 100% of his success to being able to invest in lower priced parts of the U.S. while leaning heavily on his teams in the local areas. He boasts not even needing to see properties and relying almost exclusively on the vendors that he’s created ties with to do his work for him. This is all present state of course, while getting to this period, he points out that he was working 90+ hour weeks to grind his way to success. Everyone who has invested in real estate can certainly empathize with his thoughts as to the work that really goes into investing.
His focus is on two main pieces with each property that he analyzes - He is looking to either create a buy-and-hold property that will continue to be an income stream for him or he looks to flip the house and make a quick bump in capital. Focusing on just these two pieces of work, he has built out an empire in multiple cities, in multiple states, that will likely endure for a long time.
The Bad
Mr Greene isn’t the most concise writer. Frequently I found myself waiting for him to get to the point of what he was going on about. I don’t know if that’s due to the fact that the book is about 300 pages and I just wanted to get to the meat and potatoes of it, or if because the book itself just wasn’t laid out in a cohesive manner. I’ve been reading real estate related literature for probably about 6 years at this point, and I feel like I generally have a good sense of the information that I’m going to receive.
The book had multiple instances where it would introduce a topic and talk about that topic for 4-5 pages, then it would come to a new sub-chapter and talk about the same topic again, as if it was never introduced. My thoughts on this format are simply that David took a long time to actually write the book. Each of his chapters felt as if they were broken up over many different thought processes that didn’t flow together very smoothly. It seemed as if David would write about something, and just as he was getting to the part where he would stop explaining what it is and actually talk about how he used it, he would be onto the next topic.
The biggest piece of this read that I’m missing is the HOW in his topics. He brought a ton of great topics up, but when it came down to analyzing new markets, or value add information, it felt very light.
Why Read
Though I complain about the caliber of the writing and the lack of hard specific details, this book does a phenomenal job of giving a high level overview of what David’s thinking about during his investing career. If you can push through the redundancies of his writing style and the mostly high-level topics, you can definitely learn some tips on observing markets. The book serves as a great jumping off point to then go to BiggerPockets.com and research a topic more, or to jump into Google and just start typing in phrases that he introduces. I would recommend this book for someone who is still thinking about getting their feet wet with real estate and needs some confidence building with actually jumping into an out of state investment, but if you’re already an investor who has done your fair share of research you could stand to skip this one, you might pull some nuggets of information, but for the amount of text that’s here, the book leaves a lot to be desired. - David presents some very good actionable content that has clearly been gleaned from years of being an active Investor.
One major criticism of his book it is about twice as long as it needs to be. He says the bulk of the applicable stuff in the middle chapters. Do yourself a favor and utilize the table of contents to get you directly to the information you need. Avoid reading this book cover to cover. - It is a good book, likely one of the best and most comprehensive in its category. However it relies too much on advertising for biggerpockets site and seems this is the main purpose of the book. Another issue, it would seem that there is some inconsistency about the definition of acceptable risk and using financing. Mostly he encourages buying safe low maintenance houses then talks minimally about maintenance then encourages buying run down houses. I think his strategy changed based on his financial status over the years starting with run down houses that are super cheap them moved up the ladder to lower maintenance houses. Also moved from fully finanaced to buying in cash. However that is not clear in the book. If he rearranges the books somehow then that would be better and less confusing.

David Greene, with this book, gives you enough tools and resources to succeed in real estate investing, specially if you are investing in out-of-state properties. Many of the areas covered by the book included, but were not limited to, how to analyze a deal (current + potential income vs expected and unexpected expenses), differences between price appreciation and positive cash flow (as the book points out, a smart investor can have both), return on investment (ROI) vs return on equity (ROE)... and when is appropriate to use each, and why market downturns should be celebrated instead of feared. Most importantly, the book is phenomenal at explaining how to build your TEAM, who needs to be in the team, how to find these professionals, and how to leverage these relationships. In addition, the book is engaging and entertaining as Mr. Greene adds multiple real-life anecdotes and quotes and shares websites and mobile apps to simplify the process. A must read.

"Great Package. 7 CD's, Flash Cards, Fantastic Work Book. No matter which translation of the Yoga Sutras you like best, you need this one if you are serious student of Patanjali. This teaches you the Sanskrit needed to fully understand the subtle differences in how each translation is approaced. There are great tools, charts, diagrams, and guides to assist in truly appreciating a spiritual master piece. The tools to learn, understand and appreciate Sanskrit are extremely well done. Author approaches the work from the perspective that to understand the historical basis of the Yoga Sutras, how they were taught, learned (oral recitation), and passed on from teacher to student is rooted in the very language they are shared in. A key part of learning in this tradition is to actually chant or say the Sutra in the original language, Sanskrit. Speaking the Sutra is a key part if the learning process. The root sounds from Sanskrit modify and entrain the mind of the student with the seed sounds that are spoken in such a way that knowledge is revealed or perceived directly. In a sense that true depth of the Sutra's (or any Sanskrit text) cannot be fully understoond or grasped or known unless the tones can be experienced. From my reading of this text at least this is what I understand and it has a sense and feeling of accuracy and truth. I suspect the same is true for the original text from any religion. Many languages do not translate directly or easily to English. The author has done an amazing job in providing all tools necessary to dive deeply into the Yoga Sutras in a way I have not seen before."

- Totally worth the money. I love the Sutras and this is a great resource! Its so well packaged and quite beautiful to look at, let alone study.
- EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH PURCHASE! Nothing else like it! I've wished for exactly this and here it is. You get so much more than a book. The product itself and all of it's contents are extremely attractive and well made. It arrives in a beautiful designer box containing; a superbly comprehensive yet easy to understand workbook, enlightening study cards and 7 audio CD courses (sessions) on yoga knowledge. Each element of the set can be studied separately or together and come home to nest neatly within the main box. Form & function are excellent and ideal for use, storage, transport and even as art to be kept out in a room and invite exploration for many years to come. For what all you get and compared to costs associated with workshops and classes, the price is a bargain! This you can unfold again and again.
The Yoga Sutras are revealed as 51 terms/concepts that are important to a deep understanding of what yoga really is. Each concept has a card with thoughts related to it, a lecture on one of the CDs, and a full commentary in the workbook about that concept. I highly recommend this "essential guide to the heart of yoga philosophy". It's perfect for anyone interested in or teaching yoga. - So comprehensive and easy to navigate. by listening to the CDs in your automobile, and reading the book at
home the guide provides a beginning approach to the Sutras. the flash
cards were a bit of an overkill, but OK. - Great Package. 7 CD's, Flash Cards, Fantastic Work Book. No matter which translation of the Yoga Sutras you like best, you need this one if you are serious student of Patanjali. This teaches you the Sanskrit needed to fully understand the subtle differences in how each translation is approaced. There are great tools, charts, diagrams, and guides to assist in truly appreciating a spiritual master piece. The tools to learn, understand and appreciate Sanskrit are extremely well done. Author approaches the work from the perspective that to understand the historical basis of the Yoga Sutras, how they were taught, learned (oral recitation), and passed on from teacher to student is rooted in the very language they are shared in. A key part of learning in this tradition is to actually chant or say the Sutra in the original language, Sanskrit. Speaking the Sutra is a key part if the learning process. The root sounds from Sanskrit modify and entrain the mind of the student with the seed sounds that are spoken in such a way that knowledge is revealed or perceived directly. In a sense that true depth of the Sutra's (or any Sanskrit text) cannot be fully understoond or grasped or known unless the tones can be experienced. From my reading of this text at least this is what I understand and it has a sense and feeling of accuracy and truth. I suspect the same is true for the original text from any religion. Many languages do not translate directly or easily to English. The author has done an amazing job in providing all tools necessary to dive deeply into the Yoga Sutras in a way I have not seen before.
